Dare to wear corsets in public, classy ideas for sexy looks

I have a weakness for corsets, they are the ultimate in sexy yet feminine style. Oh Cheri! offers hundreds of styles of corsets and while some are intended to wear in private or as an undergarment, many are designed for wearing on the street. Lingerie as outerwear is the hot fashion right now, here are some ideas to get you started.

The Timeless steel boned underbust corsets are the perfect accessory for your favorite dress or blouse. Picture a simple black shirtwaist dress...boring! But add a bright silk underbust corset and you make a fashion statement that turns heads.

Shirley of Hollywood has several new styles of silky, sheer and dressy blouses that are terrific on their own, but worn under a corset they look even more provocative. If you love the look of a corset but don't like baring your arms, a blouse gives you the coverage you crave while wearing the sexy corset of your dreams. A shrug is another way to provide a little coverage and can be easily removed when appropriate.

Corsets are also a fun base for costumes. More than ever, Halloween has become an adult holiday and who wants to show up at a party wearing the same costume as someone else? Using a corset as a starting point you can design a unique costume for Halloween, cosplay, Mardi Gras or masquerade party.

Determining your size can be tricky but a few basic rules can help.
  • Don't use your bra size as a corset size. Picture a woman who is a 36A, then picture a woman who is a 36DDD...these are very differently shaped ladies and you can see why a size 36 corset would not fit both of them.
  • Using a cloth tape measure and wearing a bra, measure around the fullest part of your bust. This measurement in inches is your corset size. If you measure 36", buy a size 36. If you measure an odd number, like 35", buy the smaller size (size 34).
  • This method works well if you have an "average" build. If your waist is significantly smaller than your bust you may need to go down a size...no one wants a loose corset.
You may also find that different manufacturers run large or small or even certain styles are cut big or little but this is a solid basis for choosing a size. Typically this will allow for a 2" gap in the back so your corset will fit well even if you gain or lose a couple of pounds.
