Clothing (including lingerie) sizes can vary, sometimes dramatically, from brand to brand. One company's size 8 is another brand's size 12. At Oh Cheri! we try to offer comprehensive size charts so you can see how the individual manufacturers "name" their sizes. When shopping online it's always best to measure yourself to ensure accurate sizing.
A good example of this is 1X or XL. Fantasy Lingerie is a brand we carry that offers a Plus Size line in sizes 1X-3X, but they also offer many of their styles in XL...close to the same measurements as a 1X. If you're "on the border" this can open up your options from just the Plus Size section to include a wider variety from the Misses lingerie pieces.
If your measurements fall into this gray area, here's a couple of issues to consider:
- The fabric. If it's stretch lace or stretch mesh there's a lot of give. Spandex and Lycra have some give and are also known for their "squeezing" properties. Charmeuse, silk and satin don't stretch and may not be comfortable if your size is borderline.
- Personal taste. Do you feel more comfortable in clothing that is loose or do you prefer tighter clothes? If you're shy about exposing a tummy bulge you may not want a piece of clothing that emphasizes this. But if you love the way tight clothing accentuates your curves you won't be happy in lingerie that's too loose.
- Clothing style. Compare the shape of your figure, especially "problem areas" to the cut of the item. You may find that with an open front or loosely constructed babydoll, for example, the size of your hips isn't an issue.
